Weekly planning

The topic for this week is ‘Diversity in Languages’.  During this week, the teachers will introduce and extend the topic by reading the following books – ‘What is your language?’ and ‘The world is my home’.


Through our planning, we aim to cover all the areas of the EYFS. The children will learn and consolidate and extend their maths skills, literacy, understanding of the world and explore different sensory materials while they participate in the activities that the teachers have designed for them.

Big group morning

Personal, social and emotional development: The teachers will introduce the topic and talk about different languages. We will discover the lives of Akito, Marcello and Lakshmi, learn some key words in their languages. The teachers will read the book ‘The World is My Home’

Role plays and collaborative activities are part of our daily routine: Selecting greetings in the morning (from 4 options given to them); Daily register through train station role play (children have their own Oyster cards and tap on the card reader); Participating in conversations during circle time and being in charge of certain tasks to make them more responsible and enhance their self-esteem.

Communication and Language: TThe teachers will introduce the topic and talk about different languages. We will discover the lives of Akito, Marcello and Lakshmi, learn some key words in their languages. The teachers will read the book ‘The World is My Home’

Physical Development: The children will help Molang find her flags, circle as many correct flags as you can find, count the flags and select the correct number and write the letters following the dots. They will cut and stick the flags to form the secret word. They will will create their own Kabutomushi art painting your beetle and writing its name in Japanese using a thin brush and painting over the pencil lines.

In the garden children will be able to use and develop their gross motor skills, climbing on the slide, running and playing with different equipment.

Literacy: Encouraging the love for books by including library time during our daily routine. The children will sing the song for Jolly Phonic S, A, T, P, I, N, D, K, C,R, E, O,W, B, G, H, F, U, J and L.

Mathematics: The children will help Molang find her flags, circle as many correct flags as you can find, count the flags and select the correct number and write the letters following the dots. They will cut and stick the flags to form the secret word.

Our daily snack shop role play will help the children practise their maths skills (numbers 1-5/ 1-10) as well as enhance their understanding of the world. 

Understanding the world: The children will create their own Kabutomushi art painting your beetle and writing its name in Japanese using a thin brush and painting over the pencil lines. The teachers will introduce 4 animals in Spanish or Hindi: Dog, cat, Cow and Horse. (Increase if it’s too easy). Using our animal cards name one animal in Spanish and give 4 options (cards) for the children to point. Take turns.

Expressive arts and design: The children will create their own Kabutomushi art painting your beetle and writing its name in Japanese using a thin brush and painting over the pencil lines. The teachers will introduce 4 animals in Spanish or Hindi: Dog, cat, Cow and Horse. (Increase if it’s too easy). Using our animal cards name one animal in Spanish and give 4 options (cards) for the children to point.

Personal, social and emotional development: The children will learn to say ‘Hello’ in each child’s language. They will identify the phonic letters. They will look at the book “The world is my home”, talk about the differences and similarities with the children from different countries and the language they speak and watch the clip ‘Molang’s colourful trip.’

Role plays and collaborative activities are part of our daily routine: Selecting greetings in the morning (from 4 options given to them); Daily register through train station role play (children have their own Oyster cards and tap on the card reader); Participating in conversations during circle time and being in charge of certain tasks to make them more responsible and enhance their self-esteem.

.Physical Development: The children will look at different country flags, talk about the colours and patterns. They will design their flag and prepare the materials required with the help of the teachers, cut, stick, draw their designs, write your name on the back of the flag and help the teachers laminate their creation. They will practise pencil control and use one handed tools: brushes, scissors. etc. 

In the garden children will be able to use and develop their gross motor skills, climbing on the slide, running and playing with different equipments

Literacy: Encouraging the love for books by including library time during our daily routine. Book of the week: ‘The world is my home’. The children will revisit all the phonic songs for letters learnt so far.

Mathematics: The children will look how numbers 1 to 10 are written in Hindi and identify and trace over the dotted numbers.

Our daily snack shop role play will help the children practise their maths skills (numbers 1-5/ 1-10) as well as enhance their understanding of the world. The children will sort shapes.

Understanding the world: The children will learn to say ‘Hello’ in each child’s language. They will look at the book “The world is my home”, talk about the differences and similarities with the children from different countries and the language they speak.

Personal, social and emotional development: The teachers will introduce the topic using flashcards. They will read the book: ‘’What is your language?’’ by Debra Leventhal. The children will match flashcards that showcase various aspects of Spain culture, language and food!

Role plays and collaborative activities are part of our daily routine. During Circle time, the children greet the teachers and each other by singing the ‘Hello’ song and ‘Please and Thank You’. We will introduce names of each child and teachers through songs.

The children are encouraged to follow the personal hygiene routine.

Communication and Language: During Circle time, the children greet the teachers and each other and also learn ‘Please and Thank You’ by singing the song.

Physical Development: The children will create their own passport using a provided template. They will use stickers, markers, crayons, and other materials to decorate it creatively. They will fill each word (hello in different languages) with stickers. Decorate it using colour markers.

In the garden children will be able to use and develop their gross motor skills, climbing on the slide, running and playing with different equipment.

Literacy: Encouraging the love for books by including library time during our daily routine.

Mathematics: The children will count the number of children and teachers in the small group.

Understanding the world: During this week, the teachers will introduce and extend the topic by reading the following book – ‘What is your language?’.

Trains, garages and cars will be set out for the children.

Expressive arts and design: The children will sing songs: ‘Hello’ and ‘Please and Thank You’. The children will create their own passport using a provided template. They will use stickers, markers, crayons, and other materials to decorate it creatively. They will fill each word (hello in different languages) with stickers. Decorate it using colour markers.
